Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs visits Eritrea

Asmara, August 30, 2010: As part of the wider visit to the Horn of Africa, a delegation led by the Under Secretary General for Political Affairs, B. Lynn Pascoe, has arrived this morning to the capital city of Eritrea, Asmara.

Ambassador Petros Fesahzione, the Director General for Department of Desks at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the UN Resident /Humanitarian Coordinator, Dr. Mamadou P. Diallo and Dr. Idrissa Sow, WHO Representative received the delegation at Asmara International Airport.  

The objective of the visit is to discuss with the Eritrean Government issues concerning peace and security in the East African region. The delegation has met the President of the State of Eritrea, H.E. Ato Isayas Afewrki.

According to the Programme, the delegation will have a joint meeting both with UN Country Team members and the diplomatic community in Eritrea.  The delegation arrived this morning to Asmara from Djibouti and will be visiting Ethiopia, Kenya and Burundi.
