United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF)

The UNDAF for Eritrea aims to contribute to the achievement of the overarching goals laid out in the United Nations Millennium Declaration resulting from the September 2000 General Assembly Summit of the heads of state of the UN members states. These goals include halving the proportion of people living in extreme poverty, suffering from hunger, and without access to safe water; enrolling all children in primary school and eliminating gender disparity in primary and secondary education; reducing maternal, infant, and under-five mortality rates; halting and beginning to reverse the spread of HIV/AIDS; providing access for all to reproductive health services; and implementing national strategies for sustainable development to reverse the loss of environmental resources.

In pursuing these goals, UN agencies will undertake joint programs, common monitoring and evaluation, and ensure transparent and accountable use of resources. They shall encourage the development of civil society, the empowerment of local authorities and communities, and promote the equal rights of women, men and children. Through the collective efforts of the Government, UN and NGO community, a basis will be laid for sustainable human development in Eritrea.
